Portugal continues to strengthen its place among Europe’s most distinctive hospitality destinations, with 69 hotels awarded MICHELIN Keys in 2026, 16 more than the previous year.
Introduced as the hotel counterpart to the renowned MICHELIN Stars, the Keys recognise properties that stand out not simply for service or comfort, but for their character, architecture, sense of place and ability to create a memorable stay.
Across Portugal, the selection reflects the remarkable diversity of the country itself. From historic palaces and elegant city retreats to wine estates, Atlantic hideaways and properties surrounded by the landscapes of the Douro and Alentejo, hospitality here increasingly draws its identity from its surroundings.
Two Portuguese properties retain the highest distinction of Three MICHELIN Keys, while 14 hold Two Keys and 53 have been awarded One Key. The 2026 edition also brings 16 new Portuguese additions to the selection.
More than a recognition of individual hotels, the growing number of MICHELIN Keys reflects a broader evolution in the way Portugal is experienced.
For travellers seeking privacy, heritage and a deeper connection to a destination, some of the country’s most memorable stays are increasingly defined not by excess, but by authenticity, thoughtful design and a strong sense of belonging to the place around them.
