The Douro has earned another moment of international recognition, this time through an experience that places the region itself at the centre of the story.

The Festival Octant Douro was selected as one of three finalists in the Creativity category of the PURE Awards 2026, becoming the first Portuguese project to reach the final stage of these international awards.

Organised by PURE Life Experiences, the awards celebrate creativity and innovation within the world of experiential luxury travel, an increasingly important approach to travelling in which meaningful encounters, local culture and a genuine connection to place take precedence over conventional ideas of luxury.

Under the concept Todo o Douro vem dar ao Octant, the festival follows the story of the Douro River from its origins in Spain to the Atlantic, bringing together gastronomy, music, artisans and local producers. Rather than presenting the region simply as a beautiful backdrop, it celebrates the Douro as a living territory shaped by its people, traditions and landscapes.

For travellers, this is also what makes the Douro so compelling. Its vineyards and terraced hills may be instantly recognisable, but the region reveals itself most fully through the people who work the land, the wines that carry generations of knowledge and the traditions that continue along the river.

The PURE Awards recognition places this distinctly Portuguese approach to hospitality on an international stage, while reinforcing an idea that increasingly defines contemporary luxury travel: the most memorable experiences are often those that could only exist in one particular place.
